I am still alive, I think

Tuesday, July 08, 2014 Posted by Alexander Lucas No comments

Hello everyone!

After some drama in regards to where I should write, I decided to keep trying to explore my mind and share my thoughts here instead of at Pokerskull or Poker.se for the time being, but I might move again later...

Malta in July is what you could call heaven and hell.

For people that love to go swimming or laying around on the beach it would be called heaven, well that is if you can find a nice beach of course, I think there are 2 or 3.

For a fat lazy sun-shy Swede who is in the hunt for an apartment to live in, it could be called hell.

Malta has a huge amount of apartments that is bought for the purpose of being rented out to tourists like me, however during the summer the amount of people coming to the island makes it hard to find a place.

There will always be a customer that is willing to pay that extra high rent that they are advertising, and I understand that they are not up to negotiating the prices since 2 hours later they have got another customer that accepts it.

Of course you always have the option to rent something further away from the St Julians and Sliema area, which are the two areas that are most popular for tourists, and also the area me myself is working in, and I prefer to live close to work.

If I would decide to live further away I had to get myself a car and pay extra for that as well, including insurance, gas and the fact of buying a car, so in the end that might be just as expensive.

I have now found a small studio apartment that I will be moving into, the question is just when?

Since it is brand new, this comes with problems here in Malta, since the Maltese are not a people that like to adapt to the deadline that some people want them to.
The owner told me “It will be ready by Friday for sure”, and 2 days later when I talked with him the answer was “Yeah I hope it is ready for you to move in by Tuesday next week”, and that is the way it works.

I was hoping I could find a few pictures and show you some of how big the difference is now during summer, and a bit later, for example from October and towards new year, when I will start looking again for a bigger place, preferably with a view, and not just staying in this bunker that I will be moving into, soon?

I will update as soon as I have moved in to the new apartment and gotten internet up and running, which I would guess would be in 3-4 weeks or something.

Below you see some pictures of the studio apartment I will be living in BEFORE it was furnished, I will post pictures of it once I moved in as well.

Until then, have a good day or two all of you.

Regards,
Jonas

Almost 1 month between posts...

Sunday, March 09, 2014 Posted by Alexander Lucas No comments
I mentioned in the last post that I were to post more frequently, yeah that did not go so good...

The main reason for this is that there is absolutely nothing going on at the moment, nothing is happening at work, there seem to be no chance at all to advance within the company and I am seriously questioning decisions that are made.

Sadly enough is that as soon as you try and share your opinion, stuff is blown out of proportion and instead of giving it a second or two, instead it goes back to the ”this is the way it hs been done and we will keep doing it for this reason and this reason alone”, which to be honest is frustrating as hell.

I will however try and not rock the boat as this is the way they want things to be done, and I will stick to doing what I am paid to do, and keep my eyes open for any glimmer of light.

I am still looking for jobs back in Sweden as well, however there seem to be harder to find anything there than down here in Malta, I did get a reply on one of the positions that I applied for, however they decided to go with another applicant, which was not that suprising since it was a position I doubt I were qualified for, but it was with Sandvik and in the Stockholm area, and would not have been that bad.

I also had a quick little phone interview with another gaming company here in Malta, however I turned that down since it were a position to reactivate old inactive accounts, which I am not a big fan of doing.

Sure, I would understand it to be some part of a position, but it would not be something for me to do full time, mostly because I have been on the other side of those calls way to often and I know that they basically do not generate anything, unless you have something really good to offer, which companies rarley have with those types of calls.

As things are becoming more and more slow down here I’ve been thinking of perhaps looking into taking some distance courses the coming year, if I qualify for any of the interesting ones of course, since the main education I would like to study would be a 1-2 year course in Gothenburgh and it would cost me 6500 Euro, and is out of the question haha.

I have some decisions to make, the contract on the flat I am currently renting is up at the end of this month, however we have a verbal agreement to extend it until the end of June, and when that time is up, I have some bigger decisions to make.

If I am still at the current company, I really need to see some chance for me to advance within the company, or I may as well leave, since my current position is not giving me any challenge at all and I feel like I need a bit of a challenge as well as of course wanting to increase my salary, I mean who wouldn’t.

The working out part has been going ok I guess, I’ve been going 2-3 times a week for 1 month now and I feel like I’ve become fatter and heavier than I were before and not really feeling motivated.
Everyone around me say ”ooh you will lose so much wheight in the beginning and you will get motivated”, yeah fuck off.

I have been thinking about what I eat and tried to eat a bit more healthy this month, but at the moment I struggle to feel the motivation, and now the months membership i up and I’m not sure if I want to pay another 75 euro for another month or not.

I told myself this month were to decide if I was going to buy a membership for 3 months, at the cost of 165 euro, instead of 75 per month to save some money, but before I decide what to do I guess I need to have a bit of a brainstorm to see if I feel it to be worth it or not, since I’ve seen no progress.

The highlight of the gym days are when I get to spend 10-20 minutes in the jacuzzi afterwards and just relax haha, but apart from that time I feel like I am getting weaker when trying to use the wheights as well... yeah I know I am not really a ball of excitement over here hahaha.

Things on my mind the last month...

I love not beeing in this spot for a year...

I miss going fishing with my brother.

I miss the good times with friends, alcohol or not. (I'm basically sober these days)

Malta has some good days even when it rains.

I miss having money, hate being broke all the time.

Oh well, I am not going to promise anything in this post, since I suck at sticking to it haha, anyway I hope everything is well with all of you out there, family, friends as well as the random stranger that reads this.

Summer is coming soon and I guess most of us will be in a better mood when the sun comes out.

Have a good day.

Hoodiladi Hoodiladi...

Wednesday, February 12, 2014 Posted by Alexander Lucas No comments
Pretty much as expected I found a fucking excuse to not start going to the gym.

It started with me getting a cold and when this passed I just refused to not get the huge thumb out of my ass and get out of bed.
I have at least bought a membership for a month and has now been there twice this week, I currently do not have any measurements to share, as I have been too lazy to go out and by a measurement tape, what a shocker huh…

At the moment I do not have a set schedule on what or how to work out, mostly because I feel it is better for me to do what I think is “a bit more fun” at the gym, as to give myself a bit more of a chance to stick it out instead of getting scared away by having to do “boring” stuff.

I have thrown around some weights for a bit and then I end the session with some cardio on a bike for 10 minutes of intervals or 20 minutes of straight cycling, and hopefully I will manage to stick it out longer in the future, if I manage to see any improvements.

Apart from  this, there is basically nothing going on in my life, and I am honestly getting a bit bored at the moment and feel I need something that will jolt me back into the right frame of mind again, be it some good run in poker or something new and exciting with work, but I feel something must happen.

Anyway, I will try and post more than I have, even though it might be pointless mumblings of a mad man or such stuff.

The next post I was thinking about posting some tv/movie reviews as these are things that I’ve always been interested in and think I have a good grasp on, at least I have thoughts about most of it, good or bad J

Suggestions appreciated

Saturday, January 25, 2014 Posted by Alexander Lucas 1 comment
Before I get started I have a few questions that I hope some of you could shed some light on and give me a few suggestions.

I am working night shifts as you know and start @ 22.00 and get off @ 06.30 in the morning, my question for you is the following:

When would be the best thing to go to the gym, or does it not matter at all?

Just before work, somewhere between 20.00 and 21.30?
Directly after work @ 6.30?

From what I have been thinking I plan to do some lifting and end the session off with a bit of cardio on a bike, that is as far as I’ve gotten in my plans at this point, if that has anything to do when I work out.

The normal routine is that when I get home from work I either go to sleep directly or have some breakfast before I go to sleep, is it best to eat before I go to sleep or to wait until I wake up again around 13.00-14.00?

As I said, any suggestions and thoughts would be appreciated and you can reply in Swedish if you like, I mainly write this blog in English as I currently live abroad as you know.

Until the next post, I wish you all a good day and I’m looking forward to some thoughts.

Ciao.
