Nah

Sunday, September 30, 2012 Posted by Alexander Lucas No comments

Sadly there is not much to write about from Malta.

I’ve busted the bankroll online and now my days go in the same pattern pretty much every day, I wake up at around 13.00 and then try my best in order to kill time up until it’s time to go to work.

I work from 22.00 until 06.00 and I must say that I really prefer working night shifts, since there is no chance I will sleep in late and miss work, but maybe that is saying a bit too much, that day might come.

We ordered groceries for delivery for the first time yesterday and they were to be delivered today around 15.30, and correctly the guy called and said he was on his way, and correctly Degen was playing live poker and Hinken was out playing with his friends in the water and counting unicorns among the pink fluffy clouds while Maria was at work.
So I was the only one available to take care of the delivery, and soon after his first call he called and told me he could not deliver to the door because there was an accident on the road and the rest were one way only.

So much in order of the rest of my life I had to walk about 100m to pick up the order we made, and it’s one heck of a hill we live on, so I had to walk this fucking trip 3 times carrying as much as I could each time, and I can tell you that the laughter that came out of my mouth while doing this was not laughter of joy, a bit more towards insanity I’ll admit.

So pretty much the only thing I do down here is work and sleep, sadly enough I’ve not had the energy or the will to find myself a gym in order to start working out.

There are thoughts going around in my head in regards to maybe buying myself a little scooter to move my ass around the island a little easier and faster, but for that to happen I need to win some money first.

And when it comes to playing poker there are not much free time or money for that sadly, but at least on Friday I got the chance to play my first tournament since back in Malta in thanks to a friend staking me.
€110 euro buy in and around 1300 for first sounded like a good idea to start building a bankroll, but sadly enough I was short all the way through and could not do much of anything, and when I finally got my money in with A5 vs KQ I had to leave.

The only fortune in this was that I had managed to struggle my way all the way to the final 4 by then and at least I got 500 in return, so it gave me a few euros for my effort and my friend got some money in return for backing me, so perhaps there will be more chances ahead.

I am sorry to say that the luckiest fucker on earth when it comes to luck and chance has managed to take some of the winnings from me in open faced Chinese, and Hinken has the fucking guts to cry about bad luck, yeah I will soon throw him over the balcony.

Now I’m going to grab a shower and try to wake up and then move my ass down to the office to take care of some stupid people that cannot manage their own issues.

A bit bored

Sunday, September 16, 2012 Posted by Alexander Lucas 2 comments

So the first week is over and I’ve had ALOT of information stuffed in my head, and getting information constantly thrown at you is something that really drain you mentaly, so pretty much coming home, grabing a bite to eat and then off to bed is the way it’s been.

I’ve learned probably around 45-55% of what I need to know in order to be able to do the work all on my own, so when I this coming week will be working night shifts I really hope to be able to get the rest of the info in and learn it all.

And once everything is running the way it should I think this will work out just fine.
I still have no idea when I’ll get my first pay, but I really hope it will be in the end of this month since there has been a lot of expenses and it’s time for some money to going in the other direction a bit also.

I still have not tried to find a gym to work out at, and we will see how it looks once I get my first pay, if I’ll find a place and start moving my ass a bit or keep being the same lazy person I’ve always been, with the exception that I at least work now.

I am not willing to be running around the island in order to work out, that is for sure, but if I could combine it with going to work every night that would be perfect, so I will keep you informed.

Degerman came down today and joined us in the apartment, so now there is a full house here, with 2 degenerates, and 2 working class now that Maria has got a job as well.

So it’s going to be interesting to see how the daily routine will look here in about a couple of weeks.
When it comes to the apartment I still like it a lot, but I am still in the same mindset as I’ve been from day 1, that if there will be too many fights and other issues with shit going on I will look for a place on my own.

I hope this will not be the case, but I will not take a lot of shit going on every other day and feel that it’s more relaxing being at work than at home.

I do not think this will be an issue either if people just use their brain and think a bit instead of just thinking that everything will be ok in the end no matter what.

And of course all this goes for me as well as anyone else in the apartment, and I feel that me being at work for about 9 hours every day will be a good thing (wow, never thought to see myself say anything like that).

I have no idea what I’ll write about in the future if my days will look like me waking up, grinding a bit and grabbing something to eat and then going to work for the rest of the night, and then doing the same routine over and over and over and over, and over again.

Oh well, we’ll see what happens in the coming days, perhaps I’ll find something to write about after all. I will anyways try to keep you informed of things.

30 Steps

Wednesday, September 12, 2012 Posted by Alexander Lucas 6 comments

So, after alot of huffing and puffing, we are finaly in Malta, and finaly have internet connection (which in Malta is nothing you get lightning fast unless you know someone with pull, and we don’t).

I will start by letting you know that the day we left (Saturday) began with me trying to sleep in late, and I woke up around noon (normal time). Then I got everything settled with my old apartment, throwing stuff and cleaning the place.

And after killing off a lot of time I decided to sleep since I was informed I was driving down to Skavsta at 2.00 in the night, and sleep went out the window, so when my brother came by at 2 I was a bit tired already.
We picked up Henrik and Maria and decided for a quick bite in Gävle at Max (a Swedish burger joint) before the rest of the 260 km trip to the airport.

When there and finaly got our food we noticed that it was 3 already, and we had last check-in time for bags at 5.00, so I had to step on the gas a bit, but everthing went as planned and we got there in time.

As most of you know, I’m a fat bastard, and if I would have ate all my fries before the trip I am sure I would NOT have fit in the chair on the plane, so from now on I either lose some of the fat or fly SAS home to Sweden next time, so FUCK Ryanair for having seats made for kids J #fatpeopleneedthespace

We landed in Malta at 10.15 on Sunday morning, and from the 4 degrees we had when we left Sweden we now got hit by 20+ in Malta, WELCOME !
We got our bags and got a cab to drive us to the hotel we had booked for 1 night and then got it on with the apartment hunting.

We had booked 2 persons and both of them showed us great places, both Christina Schembri from inhouseproperties.com and Aurelie from Dhalia.com (whom btw Henrik think looks like Anne Hatheway).
We had 1 place in mind after seeing all the places, but we wanted to see more, so they both set up a few places for us to see on Monday.

But I must say that I think we could have taken the last one we saw if it was not rented out for 1-2 weeks already to othere people, and it’s such a fuzz to move in to one place, sign a contract, then move to another place and sign a contract, and pay fees all over, so we said no sadly no thanks.

The hotel was not the best, but when we on Monday morning asked if we could move our check-out time to 12 instead of 11 it was no problem (thanks).

We then saw a few places, one of them was located just about 300 meters from where I will be working, and it was awesome looking, and brand new. They asked for 1300 even though they already had tenants that had agreed on the place (that is Malta for you…) but we had our budget set at 1100, so  we said no thanks and then they offered us another place (exactly the same they said) for 1100…(smells funny).

We asked to see it and they said they could not show it because it was not done yet, so they could only show the little they had done (and it was close, but the kitchen was not the same so it was no good), and then they offered yet another place, but it had no AC in 2 of the bedrooms and with around 30 degrees in Malta at the moment, I for one need an AC.

So we decided to take the place we was shown on Sunday by Christina (whom by the way is a very beautiful girl) and we called her and the place was still available, so we went there and signed a contract and after a looooong day we could relax with having decided on a place to live.

There is only one thing wrong with the apartment, and that is the location, it’s located a bit too far from the Casino, and a bit too far from work, so I will be forced to get a car or a moped, or take a taxi to work every day, which will not be cheap in the long run.
In the beginning I’ll take a taxi, and when the paychecks comes in, then we will see if I afford anything else.

So, the apartment then…

You can see pictures below of the place, and as you can see it’s very long.
I have 30 steps (52 referee steps) from my bedroom to the kitchen, so I do not even feel bad if I at night were to get up and grab a snack, since I almost burn that off on the way back to my bedroom.

We also have a little balcony where I hope to be sitting some night when I have a day off from the working grind (such a fuzz that you need to earn money) and can relax with life.

Henrik as expected took a cab with Maria down to Portomaso Casino on Monday night cause “I want to play the tournament, it looks nice” which he would have said about a crushed bug covered in shit if he only could bet on it (degenerate).

He pissed away a chiplead with 10 players left and 6 got payed, and I told him my side of things and he did not agree, so for those that know Hinken (nothing new).

Tuesday night was just the same, we had barely finished eating the food Maria so kindly cooked for us when Hinken glanced for the second time on the watch and then stressed away to play yet another tournament.
This time I think he ended up with a profit at least, and let us hope that continues both live and online since I will otherwise throw him out and rent out his place in the apartment.

Here are the pictures of the apartment we live in.

The Idiot is back abroad

Wednesday, September 05, 2012 Posted by Alexander Lucas 2 comments

I’m back at An Idiot Abroad and as the title says I’m once again abroad.

I’m yet again back on the island of Malta, but this time I’ll be a working man, and I’ll be working for a betting company, providing support for their customers during the night shifts.

This blog will still be about my life here in Malta, but since I will spend a lot of time working, my poker will be suffering a bit, but I’ll still be playing when I have the time ofc.

But as so many others in this world I will try and lose some of the huge amount of fat I’ve gained through my years of healthy living and great exercise.

I know, I know, everyone is talking about their fucking workouts and how they lose weight, but I can at least promise you one thing, I have no babies to post pictures about in my blog, so at least one cliché is out of the way.

Why would this be any different than any other blog about living in Malta, losing some fat, working out and playing poker?
Probably because I actually have some fat to get rid of, in contrast to most of the people that write about their bodies and only have like 10-20 pounds to lose and then they are as fit as anyone in Hollywood.

I am not promising you that I will stick to any set schedule and reach any goals, I will however be honest with you to the very end, if I smash my face with a pizza and 2 kebabs and a subway during one day, I will sure as hell write about it, maybe not in detail with pictures and such, but still.

I will update this blog as soon as I’ve settled myself in Malta and found out how I will work, and how I’ll get there and where I will work out and such, but probably within a couple of weeks, I HOPE, and I will update you of anything that happens before that.

My current life is as follows:

I get up around noon (or later) and most often get out and get lunch with a friend or two, then I get back to my apartment and start the grind, which usually goes on up until 23.00-0-00 in the evening, and at that point I move my ass to the couch and start watching some of the tv shows or movies that I’ve not yet seen (or could see again).

Around 5-6 in the morning I usually get to sleep again though.
During the grind and tv hours I usually do not eat very healthy, it can be everything from cooking a proper dinner with pasta and chicken, or fries and chicken or a pizza, or just some candy.
So as you can see from the paragraph above, I’m not the poster boy for healthy living or a “how to” guide to fitter shape.

As things looks at the moment I’ll be moving down on Monday the 10th and start working the day after, so it’s going to be a stressful day in order to find a place to live and get everything in order.

So this last week before I leave I’ll be selling off the few things I have that are of value, such as my furniture and my projectors that I have, and let’s hope I get it all sold in time.

I will also need to get myself a new passport, since my current one will expire in October.

I will need to book a flight and book a meeting with a real estate agent once I land.

And last of all I need to move everything out from the apartment I currently live in.

See you all soon.
